Rivers Casino Employees Give Emergency Shelter Much-Needed Makeover
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Giving back to the community - that is how some employees of the Rivers Casino spent the day.
There is house on Pittsburgh's North Side that is an emergency shelter, used for families in need.
On Wednesday, it got a much-needed makeover, thanks to employees with Rivers Casino.
Nearly 30 volunteers broke out brushes to paint the two-story, five-bedroom home. All of the work was done to show people that Rivers Casino is committed to improving city neighborhoods.
"We want them to recognize that we are more than just a casino operation, we are a partner in the community and we are here to make a difference both long term and short term," said Craig Clark, the general manager of Rivers Casino.
The building, run by the NorthShore Community Alliance, provides shelter to more than 300 individuals and families a year.
"This facility has everything that a family would need in order to function to get their life back on track," Carol Washington, of the NorthShore Community Alliance, said.
That's why the paint job means so much.
"Extremely thankful, extremely grateful that Rivers Casino has been a part of our board of directors for over two years," added Washington, "and we have had a connection with them ever since the ground broke on the site where the casino is today."
The project is just one of many Rivers employees have done in the community. They plan to continue reaching out.
"We're in the entertainment business," said Andre Barnabei, of Rivers Casino. "You've got 28 entertainers here in this room, at the end of the day, we work hard and we play hard, it's a fun environment we work in at the casino and we like to have fun when we are out as a group as well."
