Residents, PennDOT Prepare For Icy Roads
WESTMORELAND COUNTY(KDKA) - With the possibility of freezing drizzle in some spots overnight, PennDOT in Westmoreland County was out on the roads before anything fell from the sky.
They were treating the roads with salt brine to help keep any ice from bonding to the road surface.
"I'd rather have snow. It's a lot easier to work with," Assistant County Maintenance Manager Dave Forkey said.
Bill Weston is concerned about his driveway and whether his wife will be able to get down it to go to work in the morning.
That's why they bought a bag of rock salt Monday evening.
"I don't like anything about winter.. nothing," said Rose Weston of Charleroi.
Tony DePasquale, of Belle Vernon, wonders about his morning commute, too. He moved here from Cleveland.
"I'm not used to hills, so the ice is going to really freak me out," DePasquale said.
In addition to the pre-treatment, PennDOT will also have crews out all night long in case it gets bad, and they're ready to call more people in if need be.
