Residents Of Town Where Pa. Cyber Charter School Is Based Weigh In On Indictment
MIDLAND (KDKA) -- In Midland, Beaver County, where the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School is based, news spread quickly Friday about Nick Trombetta's indictment.
In the small, close-knit town of Midland, it's easy to see Trombetta's mark with numerous Pa. Cyber Charter Schools lining the main drag in town.
Steve Susha moved to town 10 years ago when construction began.
"All the old buildings got tore down," said Susha. "They got new ones and stuff, so it really looked good, but - I mean - if you're taking money that don't belong to you, that's not right. I believe justice should be served."
So does U.S. Attorney David Hickton, who on Friday announced Trombetta's indictment, saying the former CEO and founder of the Pa. Cyber Charter School stole $8 million from state taxpayer money.
It's money that was intended to educate kids.
"It ain't the school's fault," Ed Carr, another Midland resident, said. "It ain't the kids' fault or the people that send their kids there to get educated. I don't think anything should be done to the school. If he did it, it should be done with him."
Trobetta now faces a potential fate of spending up to 100 years in prison.
Something one woman says gives her relief.
"If he goes away for 100 years that would be the greatest thing that Midland has ever seen because he's done nothing but take their money and ruin the town," the Midland resident said.
