Residential Road Sees Increase In Traffic Due To Construction
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- It is summer and orange construction barrels are up all over the area. It is especially true in the North Hills where several construction projects are going on right now.
Detour signs are posted all over that area, but all of that traffic is now having an effect on residential areas.
Call it the McKnight Road shuffle; just as traffic is getting accustomed to the single lane over Babcock Boulevard comes a new wrinkle.
"Normally, if they were working on McKnight, people would use Babcock [Boulevard] or Thompson Run [Road] as an alternative," said Wayne Jones, the manager of Ross Township.
But Thompson Run, which was already down to a single lane for a wall repair, now is completely closed for a bridge replacement. That is sending traffic onto Amity Drive, a normally a quiet residential street.
Crews say the official detour is McIntyre Road to Seibert Road, but Amity - which is right at the southbound point of closure - is taking the heat.
"There's not a whole lot of alternative, and because they have to close that bridge they have to detour in that direction," said Jones.
So, Ross Township Police are vowing to do all they can to control the street - watching the stop signs and the speed.
Meanwhile, Thompson Run refugees are adding to the already heavy rush hour flows.
"People get frustrated, I understand," Jones said. "It is frustrating, but it's part of the summer it seems around here."
