WVU Settles Lawsuit, Will Join Big 12 In July
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (KDKA/AP) – West Virginia University's attempts to join the Big 12 in time for next season's football schedule appear to have been successful.
According to an Associated Press report, WVU has settled a lawsuit with the Big East Conference which will allow the Mountaineers to join the Big 12 in July.
Terms of the settlement were not released, but a person familiar with the agreement said it was for about $20 million.
WVU has already paid half of the required $5 million exit fee to the Big East.
Athletic Director Oliver Luck is expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday.

WVU filed a lawsuit against the Big East in November in an attempt to leave the conference early. However, the Big East countersued four days later, arguing that WVU had breached its contract with the conference and should remain in the Big East for another two years as required in the bylaws. In late December, the judge denied WVU's motion to dismiss.
Big East Commissioner John Marinatto repeatedly said West Virginia would not be allowed to leave until the 2014 football season.
