Report: Toews Could Unseat Crosby As Top Star In NHL
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - For a long period of time, it seemed almost unfathomable to believe that there was a better hockey player on the planet than Sidney Crosby. Now though, after Crosby scored just one goal in the postseason before watching his team blow a 3-1 series lead to the New York Rangers, there are whispers that Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews may be primed to take over that role.
Kevin McGran of The Toronto Star recently took a look at the two players and what it is about Toews that might make him better than Crosby. At the times their teams need them the most in the postseason, each player has responded differently.
As mentioned, Crosby just has one goal this postseason while registering a plus-minus rating of minus-4. Meanwhile, Toews has found the back of the net five times, is a plus-five and has his team in the Western Conference Finals. On top of that, Toews has registered four game-winning goals in the 2014 playoffs.
McGran simply points out some key stats in the argument over which player is the best in the league. While he doesn't go as far as to crown one of them, the poll in his article certainly is a telling sign of who the fans think is better as Toews holds a commanding lead over Crosby.
