Report: Second Mile Paid Penn State For Use Of Facilities In 2008-09
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- More unsettling information is surfacing concerning Penn State's former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and his alleged dealings on the university's campus.
According to a report from Fox News, Penn State was paid for sleep-over camps by Sandusky's charity, The Second Mile, years after what's been described as an "unenforceable" ban that was supposed to keep Sandusky off campus.
Penn State reportedly received almost $250,000 from the charity for a series of week-long camps in 2008 and 2009.
Fox News reports that Penn State apparently took money after the mother of a high school freshman told authorities that her son was sexually abused in the spring of 2008.
That was the incident that led to the grand jury investigation.
At the time, Sandusky was already banned from bringing Second Mile children into the Penn State football building.
He was still director of the charity, but it's not known if he participated in any of the camps.
The Second Mile cut ties with Sandusky in August of 2008, but he reportedly still held sleepover football camps for boys through his own corporation at Penn State campuses all over the state.
The Second Mile and Penn State deny any involvement with the Sandusky association football camps for boys in grades four through nine.
Sandusky was arrested and charged two weeks ago today in connection with the sexual abuse of eight boys over a 15-year period. He maintains his innocence.
