Report: Pitt Loss To Wake Forest Greatly Jeopardizes Tournament Chances
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pitt men's basketball team has been on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament for a few weeks now, but Sunday night's 69-66 loss at the hands of Wake Forest may have done them in.
Most experts believed Pitt would have to win their final four regular season games and then win their first round ACC Tournament game in order to lock up a spot in the big dance. Now, after the loss to Wake Forest, two of the most prominent bracketologists have them on the outside looking in.
Prior to Sunday night's game against Wake Forest, CBS Sports bracketologist Jerry Palm had Pitt in the tournament. As you can read here, the loss has cost them their spot, which has now been taken by BYU.
Meanwhile, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has Pitt as one of the teams in his "First Four Out" category as Kevin Ryan points out here.
With just two regular season games remaining, one home against Miami on March 4 and the other on the road at Florida St. on March 7, the Panthers are going to need some help.
Winning both of their upcoming games and winning two games in the ACC Tournament would certainly help Pitt's chances, but the loss at Wake Forest may ultimately prove to be the final nail in the coffin for the Panthers - barring a deep run in the ACC Tournament.
