Pirates, Yankees Reach Deal On Burnett
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pirates opening day starter will likely once again be a newcomer.
The Bucs finally reached a deal with the Yankees Friday for A.J. Burnett. All that remains is approval from the commissioner's office.
In the end, the Pirates will pay $13 million of the $33 million Burnett is owed over the next two years - $5 million this year, $8 million next year, and in exchange, the Buccos send minor leaguers Diego Moreno, a relief pitcher, and outfielder Exicardo Cayones.
So, with Charlie Morton likely on the disabled list to start the season, the Pirates' rotation looks like it will be Burnett, Erik Bedard, James McDonald, Jeff Karstens and Kevin Correia.
