Report: Pirates Interested In Trading For Diamondbacks' Shortstop
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pirates resigned shortstop Clint Barmes this offseason to backup Jordy Mercer, but that may not be the extent of the shortstop moves they make before the start of the season.
According to Fox Sports Baseball Writer Jon Morosi, the Pirates have been in contact with the Arizona Diamondbacks about shortstop Didi Gregorious.
The right-handed hitting 24-year-old Gregorious saw action in 103 games last year with the Diamondbacks hitting .252 with 7 home runs and 28 RBI's. In 444 chances at shortstop, Gregorious committed 13 errors last year.
The Diamondbacks are reportedly looking for a major league ready starting pitcher after it was revealed starter Patrick Corbin would likely miss the entire 2014 season with a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament.
It is yet to be seen if the Pirates and Diamondbacks will be able to come to an agreement given that the Pirates are suffering through starting pitching injuries themselves with Francisco Liriano questionable to make his debut on Opening Day and top pitching prospect Jameson Taillon dealing with elbow issues.
