Pirates Acquire Byrd & Buck From Mets

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Pirates made a splash in the trade market Tuesday afternoon by bringing in a couple of bats.

According to the Pirates, they have acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the New York Mets in exchange for minor league shortstop Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later.

Byrd, 35, comes to Pittsburgh with a .285 batting average with 21 home runs and 71 RBIs in 117 games.

For his career, Byrd holds a .279 batting average with 103 home runs and 516 RBIs.

Buck, 33, has appeared in 101 games this season and has a .215 batting average to go along with 15 home runs and 60 RBIs.

For his career, Buck has a .233 batting average with 133 home runs and 483 RBIs.

The Pirates currently trail the St. Louis Cardinals by 0.5 games entering Tuesday night's action.

Pittsburgh will open up a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:05 p.m. at PNC Park.
