Pens Trade Goligoski To Dallas Stars
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Alex Goligoski is no longer a Penguin.
He was traded Monday to the Dallas Stars.
The Penguins get 23-year-old left winger James Neal and 24-year-old defenseman Matt Niskanen from the Stars.
Both Neal and Niskanen are young enough to be much more than rental players. These are players who the Penguins can move forward with beyond this playoff season.
"This is for now plus down the line with both these players, so that's encouraging and for who Neal might play with again I say always goes to Dan, what he wants to do – he can mix and match with some guys and we've got some pretty good center ice men here," Penguins General Manager Ray Shero said in a telephone interview with KDKA-TV.
With Neal, the Penguins get a player who stands 6-foot 2-inches, 208 pounds and a player who has scored at least 20 goals in each of his first three seasons in the NHL.
This year he has 21 goals and is on pace for 29. He has the potential to become a true power forward in the NHL.
He is signed through next season and will cost $2.8 million against the Penguins' salary cap.
