Report: Pens Show 2 Sides In Series Win Over Blue Jackets
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With the potential to close out their series with the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday night, Evgeni Malkin decided to take matters into his own hands. He essentially carried the team to a 4-3 victory in Game 6 by recording a hat trick.
That was the first sign of the goal-scoring Malkin in this year's playoffs that we've seen. However, he's not the only one who has shown two very different styles of play. As Kevin Allen of the USA Today wrote, the Pens as a whole showed two different sides this series.
Allen points out several quotes from Pens forward Chris Kunitz on the team's inability to play a full 60-minute game throughout this series, the importance of doing so if they want to advance deeper in the playoffs and a solution for how they can fix this issue.
Allen also examined the confidence issue that seems to plague Malkin, how he may have finally gained the confidence necessary to snap out of his playoff goal-less streak and what playing on a line with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz does for him.
Kevin Allen will be joining Starkey and Mueller Tuesday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. to talk about all this and more as the Pens await their second round opponent.
Stay tuned to 93-7 The FAN for continuing coverage of the Pens push to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
