Report: Multiple Pens Amongst Candidates For Yearly Awards

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - As the Pittsburgh Penguins currently sit in third place in their division with 81 points, behind both the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, some of the individual performances that have gotten them to this place are beginning to get recognized.

CBSSports.com Hockey Writer Chris Peters recently wrote about the NHL awards and has two different Penguins up for the top honors at their position.

Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has carried the team at times this year, leading the league with eight shutouts and being in the top 10 in other categories including wins and goals against average.

Because of that, Peters has Fleury listed as one of his finalists for the Vezina Award, given annually to the league's top goaltender.

The other Penguin Peters has listed as a finalist for their positional award is Kris Letang. In the middle of the best season of his career, Letang is tied for the league lead in points amongst defensemen, with 49 registering 10 goals and 39 points and a +/- of 12 while anchoring the Pens defensive efforts.

Letang is the first defenseman Peters lists for the Norris Trophy, the award presented annually to the NHL's top defensive player who demonstrates the greatest all-around ability at the position.
