Report: Greene Co. Gas Well Missing Worker Identified
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A worker who has been missing since a gas well in Greene County exploded in a Greene County gas well explosion and fire earlier this month has been identified.
According to a report in the Times Observer of Warren, a candlelight vigil was held for Ian, McKee, 27, of Morgantown, W. Va. McKee is originally from Warren, Pa.
McKee is believed to have been onsite when the well exploded on Feb. 11.
One person was also hospitalized after the initial explosion.
The explosion was so intense, nearby residents reported feeling the ground shake.
Officials warned after the blaze started, that it could continue to burn for several days.
The DEP says lots of water is necessary to put out the fire and it's allowing Chevron to use more than 1 million gallons of water, if needed. The DEP also says it is monitoring the fire from the air.
The Chevron-owned well is one of nearly 650 natural gas wells in Greene County.
