Report: Goodell May Not Survive Public Backlash In Long-Term

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Since the beginning of the Ray Rice saga, there has been a public outcry for the NFL owners to fire Roger Goodell.

Despite little evidence that the owners would take such action, ProFootballtalk.com has a report that at least one owner could see Goodell keeping his job in the short-term, but losing it in the long run.

As Mike Florio points out, the league has a certain way of doing things which involves keeping people in trouble in their position until the public attention dies down, and then having them find a new job.

One of the biggest reasons that has fans calling for Goodell's job stems for the press conference he held recently in which he discussed the various domestic abuse cases across the NFL.  You can read a full recap of that press conference here.

While it has yet to be seen publicly that the owners are so disgusted with Goodell that they'd consider firing him, the NFL Commissioner has another hurdle he has to get by first in the independent investigation being done by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.  That investigation will be overseen by Steelers Owner Art Rooney II and Giants Owner John Mara.
