Relief Fund Still Helping Familes Affected By Sept. 11th
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Rick Applegate, from Cantor Fitzgerald Wealth Partners, gives his Moneytalk report with Larry and John every morning, but with the remembrance of the Sept. 11 attacks coming up in a few days, he's also talking about a fund that's still helping the victims' families.
Thirteen years ago, Cantor Fitzgerald was hit with a devastating loss.
The company occupied offices at the top of the World Trade Center and on Sept. 11, 2001, the company lost 658 employees during the attacks.
Edie Lutnick, who lost her brother Gary on Sept. 11, is the co-founder and president of the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.
"It was important to my brother and myself and certainly the 302 survivors from Cantor Fitzgerald that the company rebuild for the purposes of taking care of the families, and that a charity be started so that we could find a way both to financial get the money to them, but more important than that, to help them emotionally heal and give them an environment where they could feel part of a whole that would allow them to feel supported and to heal as best they could in the face of something that was unfathomable," said Lutnik.
The fund was started on Sept. 14, 2001.
"To address the short and long term needs of victims of terrorism," Lutnik says.
Since then, the fund has also assisted those affected by natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Katrina.
