Ray Shero Comments On Jagr Situation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- During a press conference at the CONSOL Energy Center today, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero said there was not a lot of emotion with him and the Jaromir Jagr situation because he didn't know Jagr personally.
Jagr signed with the Philadelphia Flyers to a one year deal for $3.3 million. The Penguins and Detroit Red Wings were also in the hunt for the 39-year-old.
"The last few days, it just, at the end as of last night for me, it didn't really feel right," Shero said. "To come back to the Penguins seemed like a tap in for me, and I respect his decision. This morning when I talked to (Jagr's) agent, I said what I always said in the beginning of free agency 'I need an answer.' So I gave him the deadline of 11 o'clock and that deadline basically came and went, and we withdrew our offer, and we're on to other things."
Shero said there are some reports that Jagr asked the Penguins for more money, but he never did.
"(Jagr) might of had something in his mind of what he wanted or where he wanted to go," Shero said. "He never asked for more money. We never got in a negotiation. He went somewhere else obviously."
