Ray Shero Has Regrets, But No Bitterness Towards Penguins
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Talking publicly in Pittsburgh for the first time since the Penguins fired him, New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero talked with Joe Starkey about his time with the Pens and how he landed with the Devils.
Speaking on his time as the Pens' GM, Shero said he has no regrets.
"Probably speaking for fans as well is that we never got back to the finals or won a Cup would be a regret for everybody," Shero said. "I can say one thing, that regret is shared by everybody, but it wasn't from a lack of trying."
Having won the Stanley Cup just one time in 2009, Shero addressed whether or not he thought there was another team he put together after that season that should have won the Cup.
"You take a look in 2010," Shero said. "Ottawa, we beat in six games, that was a tough series. We were up games 3-2 going into Montreal, we lose game 6, lose game 7, I think we let a number of things slip away from us. In terms of whether we deserved to win another Cup or not, you can never say that."
In terms of doing his job as the general manager, Shero talked about the level of input Sidney Crosby had on roster moves and who played on his line.
"I can be happy to say about Sidney Crosby, Sidney was absolutely fantastic to deal with from day one that I met him," Shero remembered. "Not once did he come to my office and ask about this guy or that guy, not once, he wasn't like that."
