Ray Searage Previews Pirates' Pitching Roster
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pittsburgh Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage joined the FAN Morning Show as he prepares for the team's first workout today in Bradenton, Fla.
Searage said he will be focus on having his pitchers gain command of their fastball and begin to pound the bottom of the strike zone.
Searage said the top four spots in the rotation are set with Kevin Correia, Paul Maholm, James McDonald and Ross Ohlendorf, but there will be competition for the fifth spot in the starting rotation including some "dark horses."
Searage says Charlie Morton has progressed this winter and he is expecting a better performance from him this year.
The Pirates said they will name a closer by the time Spring Training starts. Today is the first practice of Spring Training and Searage said the decision will be announced later this week.
