Ray Rice's Wife Blames Media In Instagram Statement
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) –Ray Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Monday.
The news came after TMZ Sports released a video of Rice punching his then-fiance (now wife) in the face in a casino elevator.
TMZ had previously released hotel security footage showing Rice dragging an unconscious Janay Palmer from the elevator.
The NFL suspended Rice for two games in July for domestic violence, a punishment at the time that received widespread criticism in different circles.
Later Monday, the NFL and the Ravens claimed they had not previously seen the video of the punch.
Now, Palmer has responded to the recent developments on her Instagram account.
A CBS Baltimore report shows Palmer thanked the Ravens' fans and has some strong words for the media's involvement in this incident.
The full statement reads:
"I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media and unwanted options from the public has cause my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his [expletive] off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow and show the world what real love is! Ravensnation, we love you!"
Rice himself hasn't spoken often to the media since his arrest. On July 31, he called his actions "inexcusable" and said this is "something I have to live with the rest of my life."
He added: "I know that's not who I am as a man. That's not who my mom raised me to be. If anybody knows me, they know I was raised by a single parent, and that was my mother. I let her down, I let my wife down, I let my daughter down. I let my wife's parents down. I let the whole Baltimore community down. I let my teammates down. I let so many people down because of 30 seconds of my life that I know I can't take back."
The Steelers will be in Baltimore on Thursday to take on the Ravens. Several players weighed in on the Rice situation after practice on Monday.
"I'm totally against domestic violence, my mom passed away from domestic violence," William Gay said. "That was wrong of him. But at the end of the day, we don't need to run away from Ray Rice. He needs help."

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu also weighed in on the matter saying domestic violence, "is a horrible issue that people have to deal with."
