Ravens Linebacker Terrell Suggs Weighs In On Ray Rice
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Days before arguably the biggest rivalry in the NFL, the Ravens are trying to focus on a game with the Steelers. Not the mess their former tailback caused off of it. Ray Rice was released by the Ravens Monday following the video of him striking his fiancé went viral-causing incredible backlash from the public.
Today, 12 year Raven linebacker Terrell Suggs said he and the team were shocked by the news.
"It definitely kind of blindsided us," Suggs said during a conference call with the Pittsburgh media. "Ray is our brother, we're not going to abandon him and turn on him now."
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was made to be the spokesman for the team Monday night and is the only one in authority, to date, who has spoken of the situation. Harbaugh believes his team will be able to focus for a key division game on Thursday, saying players have to deal with distractions every day.
"That's the nature of life, things are not just going to be tied up in a neat package for us," Harbaugh said. "You want to do justice by all the people involved, that's the main thing, and the extended people involved too."
"They're very mature. They're good people, family men. They have all the same feelings that anybody has on any of these kinds of things."
Suggs said despite all that has happened, it feels like a Ravens-Pittsburgh week. Adding, what would this match-up be without a little controversy and they're used to that.
"We're taking it," Suggs said. "We still have a job to do. The season must go on and we're playing the Pittsburgh Steelers."
