Ramp To NB Route 28 From Veterans Bridge To Close
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Work on the Veterans Bridge is expected to impact rush hour.
Two of the lanes on the bridge northbound will close overnight for resurfacing work, leaving just one open for morning traffic.
"If it's causing too much congestion then we're going to ask them to open up sooner," PennDOT District 11 spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
That possibility of loosening up the pressure, however, will not apply to the ramp from the northbound Veterans Bridge to northbound Route 28.
"That ramp will shut down at [Tuesday] morning. It will stay shut down continuously around the clock through May 31st," Struzzi said.
The detour will take you north on 279 a couple of miles to the Hazlett Street exit.
You'll then turn right onto East Street and wind down through the valley in a single lane, cross back over the express, then on down East Street through the lights, left onto East Ohio through more lights, juggle lanes into the single lane ramp back onto 28 northbound.
"We do encourage people to find alternate routes," Struzzi said. "Obviously, once people realize that this ramp is going to be closed for 16 days, they'll find another way to get to 28 rather than using the detour."
