Allegheny, Ohio Rivers Expected To Crest Thursday
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The aftermath of record-setting rain showers continues to cause problems around western Pennsylvania.
The flooding was bad enough that Zelienople and Harmony have declared states of emergency.
In Allegheny County, officials have issued warnings for people in towns along the rivers.
The rivers are still rising and a River Flood Warning is in effect through Thursday.
"The Ohio River from Pittsburgh to Wheeling and the Allegheny River from Parker to Sharpsburg – so these are some large areas that affect a lot of local communities," KDKA-TV Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla said.
The Ohio River at Pittsburgh is forecast to crest at 29.6 feet Thursday morning. Flood stage is 25 feet.
The 10th Street Bypass – which is now closed – and the Parkway Central – also known as the "Bathtub" area – are expected to flood too. River Avenue on the North Shore and parts of Point State Park could also be underwater Thursday.
The Allegheny River will crest Thursday morning. In Kittanning, it should happen at 3 a.m. at 22.9 feet. In Sharpsburg, it's expected to crest at 23.9 feet.
