Another Round Of Snow Blanketing The Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - From rain to snow to a wintry mix to falling temperatures, Wednesday was a challenging day of winter weather in the Pittsburgh area. And now, more snow is blanketing the area.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday for parts of the area, while a Flood Warning has been issued for the Monongahela River at Braddock until Thursday afternoon.
The Flood Warning also continues for the Monongahela River near Elizabeth, and the Youghiogheny River at Sutersville. And there's also a Flood Advisory for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh until Friday morning.
KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla says areas south of the city have the best opportunity to see accumulating snow overnight.
"Moving forward, I expect snow showers tonight," said Verszyla. "More to the south and east, and things will be wrapping up quickly [Thursday] morning. The balance of the day, mostly cloudy skies, turning a little colder and milder for the weekend."
Verszyla says the snowfall will wrap up around 10 a.m.
He says the Pittsburgh area will get between one to three inches, and areas south will get three to six.
Areas to the north of the City of Pittsburgh are expected to see less than an inch to a dusting.
On Wednesday morning, heavy rain transitioned to wet snow across the area, making for a very messy morning commute - with reports of slick roads from Pittsburgh to the north.
Thursday's high will be cold - 19 degrees.
And forcasters are warning residents to stay alert in flood prone areas.
