Rain Causes Parking Problems At Flight 93 Memorial
SHANKSVILLE (KDKA) -- Rain caused parking lots at the Flight 93 Memorial site to become mud pits on Friday.
There was gridlock as the Park Service had to find new places for people to park.
"We've had some difficulty today with the rain and areas that were designated as parking for the public," said Robin Snyder, Public Information Officer. "We've had to go to Plan B and Plan C in some cases."
KDKA's David Highfield reports:
With thousands of visitors expected for Saturday's dedication of the permanent memorial, the Park Service is asking people to arrive at least two hours early.
They also advise that the public area is in a field, with no tents, so people should dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes.
Meanwhile, the Turnpike Commission and State Police are warning drivers to expect delays, and even temporary road closures as dignitaries make their way to the site.
Drivers headed to the dedication will enter the site at the new entrance off of Route 30.
The dedication is at 12:30 p.m., but the park opens much earlier.
"Site access begins at 7," said Snyder.
