Radio Shack Bankruptcy Could Affect 16 Stores In Western Pa.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Soon there are going to be thousands of people joining the unemployment lines.
Radio Shack has filed for bankruptcy.
A hedge fund has agreed to buy nearly half of Radio Shack's stores and will co-brand them with the wireless carrier Sprint.
The other stores will be closed.
There are 16 stores in Western Pennsylvania that could close, including:
-Murrysville
-Monaca
-Uniontown
-Natrona Heights
-Homestead
-Two Stores in Butler
-Beaver Falls
-Greensburg
-New Castle
-Clarion
-Carnegie
-North Huntingdon
-Monroeville
-Cranberry
-Leechburg
There's no indication yet if any jobs in Pittsburgh might be affected by layoffs by the German conglomerate Siemens.
The company announced it is going to reduce its workforce by 2 percent, or nearly 8,000 jobs worldwide.
More than half of the layoffs will be in Germany and most will be administrative positions.
