PSU AD Expects Paterno To Return Next Season

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Earlier in the week, there were rumors that after Saturday's Outback Bowl, Penn State coach Joe Paterno would be stepping down as head coach after 45 years.

The rumors said, unnamed sources around Penn State's athletic department claimed the "wheels have been set in motion" for Paterno's retirement. The sources cited health concerns as the main reason for Paterno's retirement.

On Wednesday, Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley said he plans to meet with Paterno next month and expects the 84-year-old coach to return for the 2011 season.

Curley said no date has been set yet for the meeting.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Paterno said, "I haven't even thought of it, I honest to goodness have not thought of it."

Curley says after the bowl game, they're looking forward "to a great season next year."

Paterno's contract runs through next season and has called rumors he may quit after Saturday's game against the Gators "ridiculous."
