Proteau Talks About Penguins' GM Vacancy

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) – Adam Proteau from The Hockey News talked to Bob Pompeani about the recent developments in the Penguins franchise.

Pompeani asked him about the possibility of the new general manager wanting to keep Dan Bylsma and what moves the new GM might make.

"This team will undergo some major roster changes," Proteau said.

He added that Bylsma may be a part of those changes.

The names of several new coaching candidates have been thrown around in the wake of the Shero firing.

One possibility, Pompeani notes, is Sidney Crosby's agent Pat Brisson.

Proteau says, "I probably would not put them very high," mostly for financial reasons.

But can the Penguins circumvent the system to get Mike Babcock?

Proteau says it would have to be a "mutual parting of ways," but other than that, the trading of hockey executives is out of the question.

As for those who think the Pens dropping out early in the playoffs led to Shero's firing, Proteau says that's not necessarily the case.

"Changes would have had to been made if the team did not make it out of the Conference finals," he argues.

Proteau also weighed in on the final four teams remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He argues that Montreal has "a goalie who is Lundqvist's equal, if not a hotter goalie," which makes them the favorite.
