President Obama Arrives In Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – President Barack Obama landed in Pittsburgh Tuesday morning and will deliver a speech to local IBEW members this afternoon.
President Obama is expected to push his $447 billion jobs plan, which will face its first key test on Capitol Hill today.
The plan would provide billions in infrastructure spending. It would also lower some taxes while raising others.
It is already facing stiff opposition as members on both sides of the aisle are opposed to the bill.
Today's speech about jobs will be the 15th one he has delivered since his presentation to Congress on Sept. 8.
President Obama received a tour of the South Side facilities where workers are trained to be electricians by the IBEW.
After the tour, he will convene a meeting of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
The council consists of 27 members made up of a number of CEOs from major corporations.
However, there have been some criticisms of the council as some of the corporations have actually laid off employees.
Due to his visit, there will be some road closures and detours set up from 10 a.m. until roughly 3 p.m.
- East Carson Street will be closed from South 26th Street to Sarah Street.
- Hot Metal Bridge and Hot Metal Street along with the pedestrian, and bicycle ramps.
- Sidney Street between South 28th Street and Sarah Street.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured down South 26th Street to Sarah Street and back to East Carson Street.
Westbound traffic will also be detoured onto Sarah Street and then back onto East Carson Street.
Both Sarah and 26th Streets will be closed to parking from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Cars parking on those streets will be ticketed and towed beginning at 8 a.m.
