Preparations Underway For Michelle Obama's Visit
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Michelle Obama is no stranger to Pittsburgh, a visible presence at the G-20 Summit where she greeted local officials and world leaders at the Phipps Conservatory, along with that obligatory visit to Pamela's Restaurant in Millvale.
Now she is back again at a time when her popularity at 65 percent is considerably higher than the President's 50 percent favorable rating.
People in Market Square today gave her positive reviews.
"Being very responsible to her children, also quite a good spokesman for her causes," a man told KDKA-TV.
"She's classy, very down to earth, has style," added a woman.
And Mrs. Obama returns the warm feeling, caught on camera last year at the White House, saying, "Pittsburgh has become one of my favorite cities."
This trip is mostly a fundraiser for her husband's re-election campaign, although the First Lady will be greeted by 911th Senior Airman Dominic Mash, his wife and newborn. Mash was featured on a syndicated TV show meeting his baby for the first time after service overseas.
After that photo op, Mrs. Obama will move to the Rivers Club for a late afternoon event.
Mrs. Obama's first fundraising event there is a $250-per-person event. Then she moves over to a private residence where the ticket price goes way up to $10,000 a person.
And for the health-conscious First Lady, the Rivers Club menu is a healthy mixture of vegetables and whole wheat pasta, lamb stew, and rainbow trout, Chef Jim Gelzheiser told KDKA Political Editor Jon Delano.
Delano: "What kind of menu are you planning for this event?"
Chef Gelzheiser: "A nice healthy one and heavy hors d'oevres, so we've got some beautiful grass-fed cheese coming in. We've got beautiful produce from Chef's Garden in Milan, Ohio, coming in and some really nice healthy light beautiful fresh food."
