Preliminary Hearing Postponed For Target Stabbing Suspect
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The man police say is responsible for stabbing several people at a Target store last week was in court toda.
The preliminary hearing for Leon Walls was postponed Thursday afternoon because he did not pass the behavioral exam.
Walls was tackled and subdued by people inside the store until police arrived to arrest him.
Some of those witnesses showed up at Thursday's hearing to testify.
"When he couldn't get me, he just grabbed somebody else and started stabbing. I got away, and then he grabbed the little girl," said Tyrique Walker, a witness.
Walker ended up inside the store that day because he followed Walls there after he stabbed another man on the street. Walker didn't have to get involved, he chose to.
"I would do it again because I have a daughter. I have family," said Walker.
In all, three people were stabbed inside the Target in East Liberty last Monday.
Allison Meadows, 16, from Tennessee, was the most seriously wounded.
She suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the attack, but has since returned to Tennessee.
Sources tell KDKA's Marty Griffin that Walls has lived in nearly 20 different places since 1991 — most of them homeless shelters or health centers.
