Pregnant Woman Killed In Zelienople Crash
ZELIENOPLE (KDKA) -- A 19-year-old, who was pregnant, was killed in a crash in Butler County.
The accident happened along Route 68 in Zelienople around 2 p.m. Monday.
Sweet-faced Alyssa McKee, of Baden, was the kind of girl who loved sunflowers and delighted in catching her first fish. But she died Monday, along with her unborn baby, in a car crash.
Prom pictures, senior pictures - the walls of Brien and Marianne McKee's home are filled with photos of their only daughter.
Alyssa' Chevy Monte Carlo collided with a tractor trailer on Route 68 west on Monday afternoon at the intersection with Benvenue Road.
She was on her way to a doctor's appointment. Her boyfriend, Kevin Snyder, was in the passenger seat.
Snyder was pulled from the car, critically injured.
The stretch of 68 has been dangerous to drivers before.
PennDOT crews were out Tuesday morning; a planned project to realign the road gets underway soon.
"The road has a bad angle out there, and we've had other accidents there in the past. The vehicles kind of slide traveling westbound," Chief Jim Miller, of the Zelienople Police Department, said. "They slide into the eastbound lanes. That's a possibility we're looking into."
Alyssa had to be cut from the wreckage.
"The Zelienople Fire Department had to extract the victim out of the vehicle. [It] took about 25 minutes to get her out," said Chief Miller.
Alyssa died later at Mercy Hospital.
She had just finished her freshman year at Clarion University studying speech pathology. Her floor mates at the university's Wilkinson Hall are sharing their grief online..
One message reads in part: "I know God makes no mistakes, but it's very hard for me to understand why he would take her life and her baby. Alyssa was an awesome girl and she was always there for me when I needed her. My fifth floor girls will never be the same without her."
McKee was three months pregnant.
