Prediction Machine: Steelers Finish Third In AFC North, Miss Playoffs For 3rd Consecutive Year
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – What if we told you that the Pittsburgh Steelers would finish third in the AFC North behind the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens, missing the playoffs for the third year in a row.
Predictionmachine.com which calculates their 2014 NFL season predictions by playing each NFL game 50,000 times projected exactly that.
Using an adjusted strength-of-schedule, relevant statistics from every player's career to a fairly traditional player development curve that considers age and previous playing time, Prediction Machine has concluded the Steelers will finish third in their division, ahead of only the Cleveland Browns.
Prediction Machine has the Steelers as the 23rd ranked team in the NFL, with an offensive rank of 16, and a defensive rank of 29th.
The team does have a 35% chance of making the playoffs, but only a 0.4% chance of winning the Super Bowl.
If there's good news in their predictions, it's that OLB Ryan Shazier will be the most important rookie in the AFC.
The Prediction Machine is picking the Denver Broncos to win the Super Bowl, beating the Seattle Seahawks 24-23.
It also says that the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Houston Texans are the teams that will be surprisingly good this year.
