$1 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In Washington County About To Expire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Officials say someone in Washington County won a $1 million Powerball, but has yet to claim it.
The ticket was sold on Nov. 8 of last year.
However, the winning ticket is about to expire. It was sold at Giant Eagle near Finleyville and the winning ticket matched all five white balls drawn. Some lotteries have a 90-day, or 180-day expiration date, but the Pennslvania Lottery gives players one year to turn in their ticket.
Since the one-year mark falls on a Sunday, the updated deadline will land on Friday, Nov. 6.
If the winning voucher is not turned in by the expiration date, the funds will remain in the Lottery Fund, which is used to support programs benefiting older Pennsylvania citizens. The Pennsylvania Lottery encourages winners to sign the back of the ticket and call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at one of their seven-area offices. Claims can also be submitted at their headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County on Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
For those that want to witness the Pennsylvania Lottery drawings, anyone over the age of 55 can apply at their website. A new initiative was put into place earlier this month to get senior citizens at the live drawings in Harrisburg.
