Popular Butler Co. Costume Store To Close Its Doors
BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) -- It's the last Halloween season for a well-known place to get costumes in Southern Butler County.
Costumes Etcetera is closing its doors after more than three decades.
It's a familiar site for drivers along Route 8 in Middlesex who know the building for its castle-like appearance.
Larry and Jean Benton owned the place for years. Their employees say they always stressed having fun at work, and everyone really feels like a family.
"When I was asked to come work here, Jean said, 'Come and play' and I have for 18 years!" Said employee Judy Richard.
But two years ago, Larry Benton passed away, and this year Jean decided it was time to close.
However, just two weeks ago, while visiting Colorado, Jean Benton suffered a heart attack and died.
Her employees are now running the store until it closes.
"We're trying to finish this for Jean because she's really special to us," said employee Mary Ann Williams Freehling.
The employees say they'll keep things going until the owners' family tells them to close. They expect it will be sometime in mid-November.
