Police Worried Local Motorcycle Gang's Exploits Could Endanger Public
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- You've seen what happened in New York when a rogue motorcycle gang tried to stop traffic on a major highway.
A frightened motorist takes off, running over one cyclist; and then being chased down by the gang, his van is pummeled and he is assaulted and beaten.
But what you haven't seen the video of a motorcycle club here that shuts down the Parkway East, all so they can perform wheelie stunts and burn rubber on the empty highway.
The group, which calls itself the Pittsburgh Street Team, broadcasts its own law-breaking exploits - not only shutting down traffic on a major thoroughfare, but performing dangerous stunts throughout the City of Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Police Commander Scott Schubert has analyzed the video and has alerted state police and surrounding municipalities about Pittsburgh Street Team.
KDKA's Andy Sheehan: "Are they putting the public in danger?"
Commander Schubert: "Absolutely, they put themselves in danger, they put the public in danger, and if there would be a crash, they put the first responders responding to those incidents in danger."
The video clips were taken one year ago during what the team calls its Second Annual Halloween Bike Ride.
The concern for police is that according to the group's Facebook page a third annual event is scheduled for this Sunday afternoon.
Schubert wants the public to be aware, and stay out of harm's way.
"Give them space, and call 911 and alert law enforcement, but don't attempt to engage," said Commander Schubert.
