Police: Teen Lied About Being Sexually Assaulted In Park, Will Face Charges
WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- A teenager who claimed she was sexually assaulted in a Washington County park earlier this month will now face charges after state police say they determined the allegations were false.
The alleged rape suspect the 17-year-old describe to police does exist. Investigators questioned him, but did not arrest him.
"We've determined that the 17-year-old female has knowingly made false statements to law enforcement," said Trooper Matthew Jardine, of Pennsylvania State Police.
From the very beginning, the accusations seemed legit and state police began the investigating as such.
The 17-year-old girl claimed she met a guy online and they agreed to meet each other in Cross Creek Park in Washington County on April 6. But when she got there, she claimed a Hispanic man in his 20s hit her over the head, dragged her in the woods and sexually assaulted her.
"The investigation included that the subject she made the allegations against committed no crimes; therefore, he will not be charged with anything," Trooper Jardine said.
The girl is from the Avella area of Washington County and when she made the accusations against the guy, she described him right down to tattoos on his hand and shoulder.
KDKA's Brenda Waters: "Does he know her?"
Trooper Jardine: "I can't comment on any sort of relationship between the two; however, I can tell you he committed no crimes and will not be charged."
The 17-year-old will be charged by juvenile petition in a few days. She will face charges of unsworn falsification to authorities and making false reports to law enforcement.
