Home Invasion In Homewood-Brushton Investigated
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Authorities surrounded a home earlier today in Pittsburgh's Homewood-Brushton neighborhood following a call to 911 over an intruder.
Police officers and SWAT members were called before noon today to Alsace Street for the reported home invasion.
Officials say it all started when a woman called 911 to report that an armed intruder had entered her home.
Investigators report that authorities found the inside of the home ransacked, but did not find anyone inside.
The woman who lives there and her two daughters, a 7-year-old and a 3-month-old, were discovered barricaded in a bedroom. They were not hurt in the incident.
"She told him to get out of the house at which point he approached her, pointed the gun at her and she immediately retreated back to the upstairs bedroom and called 911," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Kevin Kraus said.
Her husband, an ex-Marine, rushed to the scene, but police kept him away.
The house was ransacked but it doesn't appear anything of value was taken, including the girls' Christmas gifts.
The suspect left behind the hammer and screwdriver he used to break into the house. Police hope he left fingerprints too.
