Police Seek UPS "Grinch" Theft Suspect
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh police say surveillance video helped them crack a case that is reminding some of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."
An arrest warrant has been issued for 24-year-old Guy Palmer.
Before Christmas, police say someone had been trailing UPS trucks, and then once a truck pulled away, the thief would snatch up deliveries left on doorsteps.
But police say the suspect was caught on tape on Garfield Avenue on Pittsburgh's North Side, and after the video aired on the news, tips came in that led them to Palmer.
The warrant is for one theft, but he's suspected in two others, according to Pittsburgh Police Commander Rashall Brackney.
"He and another accomplice - who we believe we've identified at this time as well - would then trail the UPS person, wait for their delivery and as they pulled off, would then run up to the residence and then steal the packages," said Commander Brackney.
A man, who says he was a victim but does not want to be identified, says the suspect was likely disappointed when he opened the package stolen from his entryway. He says it contained special food for his dog.
Palmer is said to frequent the North Side, Homestead and McKees Rocks.
Police hope to make an arrest by the end of the weekend.
