Police Seek Suspect After Bank Robbery In Ambridge
AMBRIDGE (KDKA) -- Police are looking for a brazen suspect involved in a Beaver County bank robbery.
According to emergency dispatchers, it happened at the Wesbanco Bank on 5th and Merchant Streets in Ambridge around 10 a.m.
Police say the robber had gun drawn and leaped over the counter.
"When he jumped over the counter the gun was in his right hand and you could see his finger on the trigger. It could have gone off and a teller was standing right in front of him," Ambridge Police Chief James Mann said.
The suspect is described as an African American man weighing about 200 pounds and was wearing all black clothing except for his shoes which were maroon-colored Nikes. He also reportedly wore some sort of mask on his face.
Many of the banks customers were upset to learn the news.
"Usually, I come in the morning. Fortunately, I would have been in there if I would have come earlier in the morning," said Sid Aykant, a customer.
No one was injured in the incident.
The bank is now closed. A sign on the door says they will reopen as soon as possible.
Police and bank personnel remained inside the bank as part of the investigating into the afternoon hours.
