Police Locate Man In Wheelchair Who Went Missing From Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police say they have located a man that went missing from West Penn Hospital on Tuesday.
According to police, David Soldati, 56, of Squirrel Hill, was found safe at a friend's house in Homestead. He had last been seen at the hospital Tuesday morning.
Soldati is wheelchair bound, is partially paralyzed on his right side, is an epileptic, and has a feeding tube. So, there was much concern about his well-being.
Police say he was checked out at a local hospital and return to his home at the Squirrel Hill Center for Rehabilitation and Healing soon.
Soldati was supposed to be picked up at the hospital around 10 a.m. Tuesday by a transportation service.
However, surveillance video showed him exiting the hospital onto South Millvale Avenue in the direction of Liberty Avenue.
He did not reappear around the corner.
"What you see is the missing man coming down the street on the Millvale side of the hospital, so he obviously exited from that side, and he is in a wheelchair going towards a Liberty Avenue entrance," said Sonya Toler, Pittsburgh Police spokesperson.
The Squirrel Hill Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, a facility for long and short term care.
Many who work there, including the administrator, helped police look for Soldati on Tuesday in a steady downpour.
"As a facility, we are deeply concerned over the disappearance of Mr. Soldati. We have been working with the police as well as West Penn Hospital in order to secure his safe return," said the center's Doug Hoffman.
