Police Seek 3 Men In Downtown Diamond Robbery
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a man selling diamonds was robbed Thursday evening in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at the Gateway Towers parking garage in the 300-block of Ft. Duquesne Boulevard.
Police told our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a "considerable amount of diamonds" was stolen from a diamond dealer as he was returning from a business trip. Police are not disclosing how many diamonds were stolen or their value, but the dealer said that they are certified through his business and insured.
The dealer who was robbed told police he believed the incident was not random and that the three men who attacked him only attempted to steal his backpack, which contained the diamonds. One suspect also threatened him with a knife and then slashed one of the tires on his car.
The three men then ran away and got into a back minivan that had been waiting for them.
Police are still looking for the suspects who are described as dark-skinned males, all wearing black hoodies. One man is heavy-set and was wearing a baseball cap at the time of the robbery.
Surveillance cameras caught footage of the attackers and police ask that anyone with information call the Pittsburgh Police Robbery Squad at 412-323-7151.
