Police Search For Missing Pitt Grad Student
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are looking for a missing University of Pittsburgh graduate student.
Qi Qin, 24, was last seen Sunday in Squirrel Hill.
The 24-year-old Pitt graduate student in East Asian studies from Shanghai, China, just walked away from the house she shared on Shaw Avenue.
"We have reached out to and gotten in touch with her parents to see, if perhaps, she had tried to go home," said University of Pittsburgh's Vice Chancellor for Communications Ken Service. "Unfortunately, that's not the case, but we are keeping her parents up to date on the situation."
Police say she came to Pittsburgh from China two years ago.
On Sunday, police say Qin told her roommate that "she was packing up her stuff and leaving."
Her roommate went to the City of Pittsburgh Police to report her missing initilly," said Service.
"She's not currently enrolled for the spring semester, but she had been a student, has been a student for a while," Service said.
Qin is 5-feet-3-inches tall, and weighs 113 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and wears glasses.
"It's very concerning, and especially with the kind of weather we've been having lately," Service said. "Any time a person is missing it's of concern, but when the elements are this bad it makes it even higher concern."
Police have tried tracing Qin whereabouts using GPS through her cell phone, but that was negative. Calls coming in to Missing Persons have noted possible sightings, but those have not panned out.
