Police, Residents On Alert Due To Upsurge In Sheraden Burglaries
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh's Sheraden neighborhood has seen a recent upsurge in residential burglaries over the past couple of months, at least 18 break-ins in a several block neighborhood.
Police in Zone 6 are urging people in the area to be more aware of their surroundings and keep an eye on abandoned homes and houses that may be up for sale, as well as any place where the homeowner might be away at work or away on vacation.
Ralph Wagner, who has lived on Pritchard Street for the past 36 years, says his neighbor's home was broken into twice in the past few weeks.
Wagner told KDKA-TV News, "I'd say this makes the neighborhood a little bit uneasy. It's something we're typically not used to here, so many burglaries, all within a short period of time."
One homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said someone kicked in her side door and took stuff from her daughter's room, like Playstations, watches, whatever they could get their hands on.
She said the burglar even took food from her freezer, all kinds of meat.
Police said they made one arrest in connection with s Sheraden burglary earlier this month, but the investigation into the others is continuing.
