Armored Truck Murder Suspect Called Friend
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are new details today as Pittsburgh police continue to investigate the shooting death of an armed transport company security guard.
"We have received some telephone calls and we are looking into any information that we receive," Pittsburgh Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said.
Police continue to search for Kenneth Konias, Jr., 22, of Dravosburg, in connection with the shooting that left 31-year-old Michael Haines dead earlier this week
"We're working very hard," Stangrecki said. "The FBI is working alongside of us."
Police are working with surveillance video that includes footage of Konias running from the GARDA truck.
Meantime, the criminal complaint reveals a cell phone conversation Konias had with a friend.
Konias: "I [expletive] up. My life is over."
Witness: "Are you having a bad day at work? Did you get a girl pregnant?"
Konias: "Worse than that."
Witness: "What? Did you kill someone?"
Konias: "Yes."
He went to say he had a large sum of money and begged the witness to take off with him, saying they would never have to work again.
"Certainly, Mr. Konias had some time to distance himself from the city of Pittsburgh if he wanted to," Stangrecki said.
According to investigators, it was first believed that Konias was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer. However, Pittsburgh police say they believe Konias could be driving a tan- or champagne-colored 2006 Ford Explorer. The license plate number is GZW-4572.
On Wednesday, investigators revealed that the shooting may have actually taken place in Ross Township, even though the armored truck was found in the Strip District.
The GARDA company is offering a $100,000 reward for information in the case leading to Konias' arrest and conviction.
