Police Recover $1.3M From Armored Car Heist
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin has learned that $1.3 million stashed by armored car employee Kenneth Konias in two locations in Florida has been returned to Pittsburgh.
Sources say the money was brought back to Pittsburgh today in an armored truck. It's now at Pittsburgh headquarters in sealed boxes. Most of it was the portion of the money that belonged to the Rivers Casino.
Investigators found the money hidden in a storage locker in Pompano Beach, Fla., where Konias was arrested last month.
Konias is accused of killing his armored car partner Michael Haines back in February and stealing $2.3 million from their truck.
A million dollars of the money is still missing.
Konias and Haines were Garda employees.
