Police Probe Shooting Outside Of Wilkinsburg Community Center
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Police continue to investigate after a shooting outside of a community center in Wilkinsburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The gunfire erupted just after 4:30 p.m. in the 800-block of North Avenue, near the front of the Hosanna House community center.
Police say they found the 27-year-old victim at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was last listed in stable condition.
Authorities have not released his identity.
But in a statement, officials with Hosanna House, say he was a father of one of the children enrolled in their child care center.
The statement says:
"There was a shooting that involved a father of a child enrolled in the Hosanna House Child Development Center. At this point in time, we are being told the father is in stable condition. The father reentered the main door on North Avenue but was unable to breach our secure inside doors. Police officials were on the scene within two minutes. Full security measures were successful and will continue to be in effect to protect children, staff, families and all who enter our facility. Counseling services will be provided upon request. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."
Police also took one person into custody at the scene.
According to investigators, 22-year-old Josiah Battle-Davis was a friend of the victim and fired shots at the suspects.
He will face weapons and drug violations and is being held at the Allegheny County Jail until his arraignment.
Police say they don't yet have a description of the suspects.
