Police Probe Reports Of Alleged Shooting Plot At Elizabeth Forward H.S.
ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Elizabeth Township Police say they are investigating reports of a possible alleged shooting plot at Elizabeth Forward High School.
The threat spread like wildfire over social media after the student, who is a minor, reportedly posted a video of himself making the threat. It has since been taken down.
According to the Facebook page, the alleged incident was being planned by one student on April 30.
The full statement on the Facebook page reads:
"The police departments within the Elizabeth Forward area have been receiving information of a possible school shooting being planned by a single individual student to take place at the Elizabeth Forward High School on 04/30/2015. The alleged threats are being investigated at this time. Multiple police agencies will be at the high school to ensure the safety of students and staff."
The Elizabeth Township Police Department said it decided to put out an alert about the potential threat after it was inundated with calls Wednesday night.
Police Chief David Kerestes said no credible evidence has been found that this threat was going to be carried out.
However, it's all parents and students could talk about today.
Police said they're looking to find evidence of the video to press charges against the teen.
"That's very vague right now. Supposedly, he was standing there and made a threat to bring a gun to school," Chief Kerestes said.
Today's potential threat stems from a massive fight in Clairton last week, where the Elizabeth Forward student was reportedly involved.
YouTube video, that has also been taken down, showed the teen and dozens of others involved and that reportedly caused unrest in the school.
Parents are frustrated by the lack of communication from the school.
"[My kids] didn't want to come to school today, so they're at home, but I'm here to talk to the school who is unavailable and has still yet to this moment to tell me anything about this," Julie Snyder said.
Elizabeth Forward's Superintendent tweeted this message Wednesday night talking about the rumors.
We are aware of rumors on Facebook and are taking steps to make sure high school is secure & safe. School is open tomorrow. Have a goodnight
