Moon Twp. Elderly Couple Found Dead In Suspected Murder-Suicide
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after an elderly couple was found dead Tuesday afternoon inside a home in Moon Township.
The Moon Township Police Special Investigations Unit, Allegheny County homicide detectives and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office were called to the scene at 1030 Sandhurst Drive.
Neighbors were upset to learn that the 82-year-old couple, who has lived there for decades, was found dead Tuesday afternoon.
"Around 2:45 yesterday afternoon, the Moon Township Police were dispatched to Sandhurst Drive for report of a possible fatality at that address," Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
The couple's son, who lives across the street, discovered his parents and called police.
"There, they found two people deceased. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene," Lt. Schurman said.
Police did not disclose details into the how Donald and Nancy Whiteside died. However, they did say a note was found in the home, which is believed to be from the husband to police.
"There are several things that indicate that this was a murder-suicide, without getting into great detail, deference to the family," Lt. Schurman said. "We have no reason to believe there was any intruder in the home or outside forces at play here. At this time, we do not believe there was any foul play involved in their deaths."
Nancy Whiteside was suffering from dementia. Neighbors said recently, it seemed to have progressed and she was beginning to not recognize her husband from time to time.
Moon Township Police turned over the investigation to Allegheny County Police and the Medical Examiner's Office.
